Khamenei Ends the Moshayi Dispute

Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, took part in Tehran's Friday prayer sermon yesterday and refuted any suggestions that Iran is a friend of the Israeli people. Referring to the statement made by Ahmadinejad's deputy, Rahim Moshayi, that ''We are friends with all the people of the world, even the people of America and Israel'', Khamenei asked the faithful during the Friday prayer sermon, 'How can we be friends with the people of Israel? Are these not the same people who have expropriated the Palestinian lands? Are these people not the very extras of the Zionist regime? To make such suggestions is wrong and illogical'

At the same time Khamenei addressed the ongoing attacks made by others against Moshayi, and without naming names, he said 'a wrong statement has been inadvertently made and we should end the matter here and not keep going on about it and make problems. Being friends with the people of Israel is not the official position of the Islamic Republic nor that of the government of the Islamic Republic. So the problem is dealt with and over'

Despite some recent suggestions by "Iran experts", it seems Ahmadi-nejad and his government still have the firm backing of the Supreme Leader.

Hmmm...That's funny, because I just read an article in the New York Times describing how Ahmadinejad has now publicly supported Moshayi. He reiterated Moshayi's comments, which make sense, but there was a caveat: He said that although he believes this, he came to his beliefs completely separate from the clerical leadership in Qom.

So I don't know what to make of Khamenei's statement yet, but I wouldn't say that that Ahmadinejad has their full support.

Ahmadinejad is standing by Moshayi because they are related. Supreme Leader is backing Ahmadinejad and his government, however he couldn't not ignore the mounting criticism from other clerics, so his solution was to say what Moshayi said was wrong, he made a mistake but lets move on and not weaken the government by this endless demands for his resignation.

My guess is thats where the matter will end. What Khamenei says goes usually. He is not after all a ceremonial Supreme Leader.

Under this stupid system — if Ahmaghi - najess sacks or changes 9 of his Governments members — then his government is deemed to have fallen and a new election must be called for the presidency - He already has 8 changes so that is what the old fool is getting at. change Moshayi and its the end of this lame dick....

Here is an excerpts of Gov. Palin remark about Iranian people women today. The only American politician who have mentioned Iranian women situation. She deserves a credit for bringing the issue up and I hope you will spread the word:

EXCERPTS:

"Not even Iranian citizens are safe from their government's threat to those who want to live, work, and worship in peace. Politically-motivated abductions, torture, death by stoning, flogging, and amputations are just some of its state-sanctioned punishments. It is said that the measure of a country is the treatment of its most vulnerable citizens. By that standard, the Iranian government is both oppressive and barbaric. Under Ahmadinejad's rule, Iranian women are some of the most vulnerable citizens. If an Iranian woman shows too much hair in public, she risks being beaten or killed. If she walks down a public street in clothing that violates the state dress code, she could be arrested. But in the face of this harsh regime, the Iranian women have shown courage. Despite threats to their lives and their families, Iranian women have sought better treatment through the "One Million Signatures Campaign Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws." The authorities have reacted with predictable barbarism. Last year, women's rights activist Delaram Ali was sentenced to 20 lashes and 10 months in prison for committing the crime of "propaganda against the system." After international protests, the judiciary reduced her sentence to "only" 10 lashes and 36 months in prison and then temporarily suspended her sentence. She still faces the threat of imprisonment."

Sarah Palin is a joke. Ace Ventura (aka The Pet Detective) might as well have said those things, because in the end, Sara Palin is a joke. Thus, everything that comes out of her mouth is, yes, you guessed it: A JOKE.

As if Sara Palin gives a God damn about Iranian women. Get a clue.

And Mr. Azarmehre - you by publishing this idiot's ranting are contributing to him propagating his shit. so - I am afraid — you have lost me as one of your blog's readers.
I am now deleting your address and will not read any more of your post as I think you are somehow a supporter of this guy otherwise as so many others have already made many complains regarding him and urged you not to give him any more free tribune to spread his rubbish — you have not taken any notice of them — so — here it goes. ... delete ... done.

Clerics are respectable but we have to do what we have to do. You make your ‎recommendations, but (bear in mind that) we cannot implement every recommendation ‎that you make. The responsibility of running the country rests with us, and that has its ‎own rules…. ‎‎Mashai’s words are my words and those of the government

these are ahmadinejads words. regardless of how we feel about the iranian government, this man indeed has some balls.

Sarah Palin and her terrorist friends are no better than the mullahs. These americans can just fuck off.

Did Ahmadinejad really say that!? Please send me the link to where I can read it in Farsi, please!!

I think this election year is going to be interesting, not because I somehow think they are free and fair elections, but because it seems as if its going to expose a lot of differences between the different power camps.

I have been really busy to respond but my tupence worth on some of the comments while I am at my lunch break.

Re: Ahmadinejad's Balls:

While I admit anyone who occupies a post like that in the Islamic Republic has to have some balls for a variety of reasons, but mainly fear of when they fall out of favour and fear of people's reveneg one day, I have to ask:
- where were AN's balls when he abandoned Palizdar?
- Where were AN's balls during the war with Iraq? Not much is known as to exactly what he did during the war!

Re: Barmakid's comment on Palin.

Would you also admit how stupid Madeline Albright's apology to mullahs re Mossadegh's downfall was? i.e. she apologised to the very people who helped bring Mossadegh down and to this day refuse to name a street after him!!
or do your accusations of stupidity only based on your ideolgical guidelines?

Ummmm...Did I call someone stupid? What does Madeline Albright and Mossadeq have anything to do with Sara Palin? Or for that matter, with anything I said.

Sara Palin wishes she had the diplomatic depth and intelligence of Madeline Albright instead of that of a snow hamster.

Can I ask why we're not talking about Ahmadinejad's interviews in the states? Nobody saw him on Larry King Live? What about his interview with NPR? Now that was a good interview - the questioner even confronted him about domestic laws like satellite confiscation and election restrictions.

Here's the link, it's only 8min:

Barmakid,

What intelligence does Madeline Albright have when she apologises to the mullah's for America's role in overthrowing Mossadegh, when the mullahs themselves were instrumental in the coup? Any half intelligent person would apologise to the victimes not to the culprits!

We don't watch Larry King here, but one of my US readers made this remark about AN's interview with LK:
Hello Potkin: Last night I watched Larry King interviewing Ahmadinejad. Of course, the Iranian president answered the questions with the same evasive double-talk we have all come to expect. One question Larry King asked Ahmadinejad about was his statement that there were no homosexuals in Iran. Ahmadinejad spoke vehemently about strict laws against homosexuality saying that they were like laws "punishing people for automobile traffic violations." At that point, I felt let asking, "What laws in Iran for automobile traffic?" There is complete chaos in Iranian auto traffic. Many deaths and maimings could be avoided if the regime was as strict about dangerous driving as it is about "morality".

Anonymous said...

You should know that that is a complete distortion of the interview.

Kurosh and Barmakid,

Can you elaborate any specifics on your attacks and accusations against Governor Palin? Or do you just like to toss smears and labels?

I'm not the biggest fan of her policies as mayor of an Alaskan small town or as a governor mind you - but the insults without justification are as bad as when some misguided folks call Obama a "secret Muslim."

Sohrab jan,

I would be delighted to give some substance to my statements. Would you really think I couldn't substantively criticize Governor Palin? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll slander and calumniate her without substance until November, but for you, I'll offer some substance:)

Here we go:

1. She accepted over 500million dollars in pork as governor of Alaska while campaigning against such spending now. You know the whole "thanks, but no thanks" mantra she has repeated over 285,651 times.

2. She was for the "bridge to nowhere" before she was against it. Political winds? Seems so.

3. She criticizes someone who has garnered over 18million votes for being a "community organizer." Who's the elitist and who's the populist? Would a populist criticize community organizing?

4. She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was.

5. She supports President Bush.

6. She believes, and has been videotaped saying, that the Iraq War is a mission from God. Doesn't that just give you the goosebumps? What's the difference between Ahmadinejad saying that everything the IRI is doing will be justified by the Mahdi/Imam Zaman? Ay Lashgar-e Saheb Zaman Amadeh bash!!!

7. She is against a woman's right to choose and would like to reverse Roe v. wade.

8. She is opposed to affirmative action and would like to overturn Brown v. Board of Education.

9. She has yet to talk to the media with only 2months left until the elections. What does it portend about someone's presidency if they prioritize campaign strategy over the American People? Do we want another secretive VP? Or how about more secret energy deals? Vote for Palin if you do.

10. She's no Hillary Clinton.

be salamat,
barmakid

p.s. The election is locked up - there is literally no chance for the McCain campaign to take PA or MO. They can have Florida and Ohio - but it's not enough!!! Final outcome: 273-265, Obama.

btw, did you here Ahmadinejad take a shot at Governor Palin?
