Guardian Council Approves Postponement of Town and County Local Elections

Prior to last year's fraudulent elections in Iran, the regime apologists would go out of their way to say the regime in Iran is a popular one and those who oppose the regime are just a few counter-revolutionary disgruntled exiled ex-pats. After the massive protests in the aftermath of last year's election fraud and thanks to the courage and initiative of Iran's citizen journalists, this was no longer a realistic tenable position by the apologists and the 'useful idiots'. The world saw clearly the extent of the opposition to the regime and the brutal crackdown that followed.

Hence the 'useful idiots' and apologists, aware of the desires of the self hating rich kids in the European Left to endear themselves to the working classes, even though the vast majority of them are not remotely working class themselves, came up with the notion that the protests in Iran are carried out by Iran's affluent North Tehran kids and not supported by the working classes. They argued that Ahamdinejad was supported by the poor and the working classes and enjoyed large support outside Tehran and in the provinces and the country side. An argument that appealed to some of the European Left who were shocked at how wrong they may have been in their assessment of a popular regime in Iran.

Of course we know how large the protests were and of course we know Tehran does not have that many affluent kids and in fact the affluent kids largely stayed away from the protests, but without an independent poll, how could one argue against this nonsense?

I tried to argue against this on Aljazeera once as best as I could:

but as always it is best to wait for the regime to shoot itself in the foot and provide the evidence, even though sadly for most of the Western media this was not sensational enough news to report. The Town and County local elections which were due to take place this year have been postponed to be held simultaneously with the next presidential (s)elections and today the Guardian Council approved this! So if Ahmadinejad enjoys so much support in the provinces and the rural areas, why were these elections postponed. Surely it would have been a good opportunity for the regime to show how popular it is and that it is able to hold these elections without much fuss.

To postpone these elections are totally unconstitutional. After all when you vote for your representatives, you trust them to represent you for a limited period that was agreed at the time. So lets wait and hear what spin the 'useful idiots' put on this now?

potkin,

you speak out of your ass. There is not one single piece of evidence you can provide to support your position. Its easy to state your position, but when you can't support it, its a lie.

I have been in Iran my whole life, I see the support that the government has among the people. In the markets, the bazaars, the cab drivers, most people support the FORM of government. They may not like individual leaders, or individual parliament members, but in the end, they support the Islamic form of Government.

You don't have anything to back you up. and YES, for the most part, the uprisings were among the upper middle class in Tehran who wanted more superficial freedoms in Iranian society. Ironically, I think there needs to be more social freedoms for the people, especially women, but the "green" movement is the wrong way to do it.

Dear SZ

Surely the 'evidence' you require is the fact that the regime have postponed this year's local elections. If you are not disputing that they have then what is your point exactly?

Well if true, it's just another stalling tactic that will ultimately fastrack the people's ire and retribution. As for the Dark regime supporters, the answer is simple: Internationally monitored referendums and elections where any candidate can stand. But of course that'll just be a death or arrest warrent for Khamanei's clique. After all, why allow genuine liberties and so called 'superficial' freedoms when they've done so well in blackmailing, beating and brainwashing a certain percentage of the populace in letting them cling to their greed and power! Ultimately future Iranian's will be ashamed of yet another black chapter in their history. First the Shah and now the Shah of Islam. Iranian's deserve so much better than to have cowardly and sinster plain clothed Basiji walk amongst them! How can the markets, bazaars and cab drivers geninely speak the truth with the Islamic Gestapo hiding in every corner for tattle-telling blood money! Azadi Irani!

Waybec,

You are completely delusional. This story is not true. Did you notice that Potkin did not provide a SINGLE source. He just posts it, and you useful idiots assume its true. I talked to my mother in Tehran last night, and no election has been postponed! Its not even in ANY Iranian papers or news stations. You would figure they would let the people know.

"But of course that'll just be a death or arrest warrent for Khamanei's clique. For your information drone, Iran is the only Islamic nation in the Middle East to have elections besides Turkey. You don't know anything about Iran other than what you read on this blog, or read on CNN and Fox. Why don't you open your eyes and see that Iranians support this government and that they may disagree and dislike certain leaders, but they support the premise of the Islamic Republic.

"Ultimately future Iranian's will be ashamed of yet another black chapter in their history."

This is a classic, the people ushered in this government, and you, an idiot claims that future Iranians will be ashamed.

"Iranian's deserve so much better than to have cowardly and sinster plain clothed Basiji walk amongst them!"

Actually, they are people to, they are VOLUNTEERS, those are the very same people who fought Iraq in the war of aggression against Iran. but off course, you think the basij are just some paid bunch of soldiers, when in reality they are ordinary people who believe in the government they helped bring in. They sacrificed for Iran during the war. Go to hell you stupid idiot. you're a traitor.

"How can the markets, bazaars and cab drivers geninely speak the truth with the Islamic Gestapo hiding in every corner for tattle-telling blood money! Azadi Irani!"

HAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAH...when is the last time you went to Iran? Islamic Gestapo? Really? Do you work for Foxnews? Is that the best you can do? Is this the BS you people feed each other? I have lived in Iran for 28 years, and not a single time did I see a "Islamic Gestapo"!! Seriously, stop with the bullshit, and stop with the lies. At least, if you're gonna post shit, make it believable.

SZ,

The government sources for postponement of Town and County Elections:

كدخدایی افزود: بر این اساس دوره سوم شوراهای اسلامی شهر تمدید می شود و انتخابات دوره چهارم شوراها با انتخابات دوره یازدهم ریاست جمهوری به طور همزمان برگزار خواهد شد.

I suggest your mother at least reads the pro-government dailies. Perhaps she is under some kind of pressure and is scared of telling you what is going on when you speak to her on the phone.

potkin,

just because they have been delayed, or moved to a different date does not mean they won't happen.

you haven't been in Iran for 30 years, what do you possibly know about Iranian people and the pressure they are under.

Furthremore, I talk to my mother, and its absurd to say she is under pressure. In fact, she is under no pressure at all! she is an ordinary woman!

do you really think that people in Iran are under pressure not to say certain things to their families over the phone? are you this delusional?

What this goes to prove is that neither SZ the bacheh soosool who has been in Iran 'all his life' nor his mother who is in Iran know a fucking thing about what happens inside the country. What a jackass.

Vaghean haal kardam. Thanks Potkin.

Dear SZ.
I respect your views. Basically I have lots of Iranian friends either LIVING in Iran or having escaped it. Most now call it Prison Iran, with most people fed up and angry and even secretly saying they're not a Muslim - even though the system has focibly brainwashed them and still does with young kids today into it! Personally I think FOX news in a way is just as sinister as any dictatorship. Corporate greed die-hard Christian Neo-cons! All plastic and Coca-cola! And I'm sorry my friend but democracy in Iran is not a valid concept. Not when candidates are choosen by the elite few, and then that elite view can cook the books to favour their candidate. Khamanei seems to overrule and have the final say on everything. Of course I know I won't change your view about anything. You'll just continue to read the Iranian state controlled newspapers - where the regime now currently imprisons most journalists in the world. Certainly your abuse at me would just land you in jail or even the trumpted up death penalty if you decried Khanmanei. But the fact is I don't have a massive demi-god ego like Khamanei and so I can take it. Myself and obviously Potkin too by publishing your views. That's the bottom line. Your views are free and even welcome on this blog. So just for the fun of it, why not go out onto the Tehran streets and start shouting Marg bar diktator or saying you want free elections for all faiths and idologies. It won't be long before you start seeing the Islamic Gestapo knocking at your door then! And indeed threatening your honorable mother to get at you! But again feel free to stand up for a theocratic tyranny and call me every kind of abusive name you can. Personally I'm totally free of all man-made religion's and yet I'll still say peace, happiness and good health to you my friend with the opposing view.

Dear SZ.
I respect your views. Basically it all boils down to words. I always say if a power imprisons people for simple words then only one damning word need be applied to it: Dictatorship. Strange then how Khamanei's regime is now rated as the number one jailer of journalists in the world! And why always the blocking and censorship of MGS, satellite and web pages? And why only state controlled newspapers? Find one that is critical of Khamanei? Oh, I know, the nasty CIA and BBC!
I actually have many Iranian living inside Iran. Most now call it prison Iran with an angry dissatisfaction ruling their lives.
I also actually cringe at Fox news. Plastic presenters and snide news agenda's all catering to the corporate greed christian neo-cons!
So, I try to make objective opinions. I don't call myself any other name than human. Personally I don't feel the need to take on another name just to make me feel more divine of important. I also find that once people give themselves another name, it's so much easier to call other's lesser names! So your personal abuse at me doesn't bother me. Unlike Khamanei's demi-god ego, I won't try to throw you into jail or serve you with the death penalty. Try criticising him loudly in public, and you'll soon find the Basiji knocking at your door. Worst still, threatening your honorable mother! That's how THEY operate! Of course I know I won't change your view at all! A lot of Iranian's are articulate, intelligent, artistic and cultured. I just think it's a shame that all of that wealth of character cannot be openly expressed without being repressed, censored or arrested. Convert, conform or Death, death death seems to be the great regime's motto!
If you believe in God then fine. But believing in a religion is just believing in another MAN telling YOU what God is! And the mix is worst with politics.
Ultimately you can call me all the names you like. You are free to express your views. And Potkin obviously feels the same by publishing them! Unlike the Islamic Republic, WE ARE NOT AFRAID OF SIMPLE WORDS. And likewise as a fellow HUMAN BEING, I just say peace, good health and thank you friend for your opposing view.

Amir,

you're an idiot. At least SZ gives facts and sources for his views. what do you give this blog? nothing.

Amir said...

Anonymous,

Facts and sources? Are you stupid? Did you not read his original comment? He accused Potkin of lying. In this case his sources were wrong. He distorts the truth and his sources are unreliable. He covers up his pointless ranting by accusing everyone of being a traitor. He is irrational and over dramatic like a teenage girl.

What do I bring to this blog? Comments against stupid people like you.
