Ahmadinejad Won the Debate with Moussavi Hands Down

Just finished watching the live debate between Moussavi and Ahmadinejad on Press TV. I have to say Ahmadienjad won hands down. He correctly recognised Moussavi's achiles heel, i.e. his backer, Hashemi Rafsanjani and his record of government in the 80s. Moussavi kept generalising where as Ahmadinejad kept giving specific examples and he kept bringing up the link between Hashemi Rafsanjani and Moussavi.

'So you entered the race because you thought the country was on the brink of collapse? We had 49% inflation under Hashemi and the country was $40 Billion in debt. How come you didn't feel compelled to come on the scene then?' Ahmadinejad asked Moussavi, without the challenger having a reply for him.

Ahmadienjad kept bringing up specific examples of corruption and disregard for the law. He mentioned the Stat Oil scandal, Rafsanjani's sons and even questioned the worthiness of Moussavi's wife's qualifications from Azad university and how she didn't even have to sit the entrance exam.

Total total demolition of Moussavi in my view. Even the interpreter at Press TV must have thought he was not on air when he jibed to his colleague that while Moussavi kept generalising, Ahmadinejad kept giving specific examples.

Ahmadinejad et al are the masters of manipulation. I suspect the regime establishment wants him the winner. I hope he wins. His victory will lead to the collapse of the regime quicker.

Ahmadinejad was an attack dog out there. Mousavi was stiff and unanimated - Ahmadinejad was loose and genuinely animated.

He responded to the criticisms made of him in a way, I think, no one expected. He took on Rafsanjani, Khatami and even criticized (although he quickly back tracked) the way the government operated in the 80s!

He is a genuine politician - more genuine than Mousavi at least. Everyone thinks Ahmadinejad is the puppet, but honestly, Mousavi has already had his stint in government and now all of the sudden he has been elevated to the national scene miraculously. Mousavi is part of the regime's scheme - not Ahaminejad (that's why he was so defensive and visibly upset with the criticisms leveled at him).

Sometimes we have to rewrite the script - and Ahmadinejad rewrote it at that debate.

The rivalry spiralled out of control and became a public condemnation of the establishment on State TV! :)))

Thats why these spontaneous demos against the government happened after the debate:

The debate between Moussavi and Rezaii yesterday in comparison was dull and eventless. Once again Moussavi shgowed that he does not have a detailed plan. We don't even know who will be in his cabinet, but we do know some of the people who are in his campaign team like Moussavi Tabrizi were notorious henchmen of the 80s.

In my opinion, the greatest outcome of public debate amongst Islamic Republic's henchmen is clarification of their character and an audacious disregard for Iran and its people's welfare. Is there any doubt now that the regime is acting like colonialists. Interestingly neither Ahmadinejad nor Mousavi mentioned a word about how the Shah ruled and administered Iran and how the people lived in that era. As the Shah predicted, they are on a path to make an Iranestan out of Iran.

Couple of questions...

Aryamehr, you said it ended up with both candidates complaining about the establishment. Do you think both of those candidates are on the outside of the establishment? Ahmadinejad because he's not a cleric and Mousavi because he's been frozen out?

Also, were they both trying to appeal to their own respective bases? Ahmadinejad to religious/working-class/non-urban voters and Mousavi to whatever his base is? Or were they try to gain new supporters?

John,

I am not Aryamehr!

Mousavi didn't rally attack the establishment, he mainly just criticized Ahmadinejad while Ahmadinejad portrayed Mousavi as part of the establishment (and then proceeded to criticize the establishment:))

p.s. Mousavi is a joke
